This semester I took a haiku class. The teacher was boring as hell, but I thought the background behind it was really cool. I learned a lot about Zen that I never knew before. Anyway, our final project was to write ten haiku. I finally finished so here are the ten that I wrote.
1.
a gentle spring wind:
it blows cherry blossoms and
tears from my tired cheeks
2.
taking the wrong train,
the rice paddies speed by quickly—
my dreams fill with green
3.
the first signs of spring—
as shy buds slowly open
and greet the morning
4.
Okinawan sun,
the cerulean ocean;
they smell of old bones
5.
suddenly it roars—
echoing in a humid night
bombarded by rain
6.
in the humid heat,
the sound of children’s laughter
on the temple porch
7.
very soon twilight
will paint the evening sky dark
with lost memories
8.
the autumn moon shines
lighting up less traveled paths;
forgotten footprints
9.
in the first snowfall,
stubborn blades of browning grass
fighting against wind
10.
bitter cold winter:
ten fingers in one pocket
searching for some warmth
